Dear friends of football,
this year we have the opportunity to present the young football sport from all over Europe here in Germany, in the Hessian Baunatal. For me, this event represents a major milestone in deaf sports. I can remember having organized the first German Deaf Youth Soccer Championships in 1979 with many hard-working helpers. And now, 41 years later, such a major international event is possible! This gives athletes the chance to play big competitions and gain international experience from a young age.
From July 30th to August 8th, 2020, over 12 teams from all over Europe will come together. Here the young soccer players have the opportunity to develop further, to achieve sporting success and to make friends for life. The deaf community lives from events like this where people with the same passion – football, come together. Sport, but above all football, has the power to bring people together, to put aside differences or differences and to celebrate diversity. That is why I am very happy to see this event in Baunatal, where inclusion and the “colorful togetherness” are very important.
I am very happy that the Deaf Sports Youth has taken on this task of organizing a big football festival and I wish Ricardo Scheurer and his organizing team a successful implementation of the event. For all athletes, participants and last but not least the spectators exciting fair games and a due European champion at the end of the competition!
